Brighton and Aston Villa battle it out on Wednesday night at the Amex, with both teams still scrapping for European finishes this season.

The Seagulls have been in impressive form, with four wins and a draw in their last five Premier League outings.

A Champions League finish remains very much a possibility for Fabian Hurzeler’s side as they sit just one point behind fifth-placed Manchester City.

Villa, of course, are still in the Champions League this season but would love to secure a return through their league position.

They are lagging behind a little but could improve their position markedly on Wednesday night on the south coast as a victory would see them leapfrog the Seagulls.

Unai Emery’s side are continuing their incredibly busy schedule, with five wins on the spin in all competitions, coming in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

The previous meeting between the sides this season finished in a 2-2 draw in December at Villa Park.

Unfortunately not, the live game on Wednesday is Liverpool vs Everton which is being shown on Sky Sports.

There is a midweek Match of the Day show this week, at 10.40pm on Wednesday on BBC One.

Brighton vs Aston Villa team news

Brighton have a string of injury issues with Igor Julio, Georginio Rutter, Adam Webster, Tariq Lamptey, Jason Steele, James Milner, Ferdi Kadioglu, Solly March, Mars Wieffer and Joel Veltman all out.

Aston Villa are in far better shape, with just Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey ruled out of this one.
