There are two InterContinental hotels in Bali. The InterContinental Bali is in Sanur, just south of the airport, and has been part of IHG as long as I can recall.

The InterContinental Bali Sanur used to be a Regent before and was then reflagged as a Fairmont, opening under the InterContinental brand in 2022 (read more here).

It was not in very good shape when I stayed there in 2022, and I actually cut my stay short. I had stayed there also when it was a Fairmont property.

InterContinental Bali Sanur Award Availability:

I’m not sure what’s taking place with this hotel again? Are they planning to leave IHG and reflag under yet another brand, because all award inventory has been blocked?

There is no availability for any stay length (I checked all combinations from 1 to 7 nights) over the next 12 months. None.

Conclusion

There were plenty of award availability at variable rates at all other IHG’s properties from Holiday Inn Express to Regent, but none at this InterContinental.

In my opinion, it’s always a bad sign if a hotel changes its flag several times over a short period.

It usually indicates a struggling property and/or delusional owner that may believe that merely switching the flag will resolve all the underlying problems why the property doesn’t perform to their liking.

It is not precisely clear what is happening here, beyond the fact that the property has decided not to be in compliance with IHG and has blocked all award inventory.

Not good.
