The Chronicles of Narnia franchise has been dormant for years now, with the last film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, released in 2010. But the 2023 announcement that Greta Gerwig would be reviving the franchise for streaming giant Netflix was well received. The Chronicles of Narnia would be in the hands of a true visionary—someone who knows the value of honoring its legacy while moving it forward, as she did so deftly with Barbie. But if you pick a visionary to revive a franchise, they're inevitably going to do what visionaries do: make controversial decisions.
