In 2022, a Hidden Horror Gem Took Everything Great About Summer Camp Slashers and Switched Out the Teens for Better Targets
Swedish horror The Conference takes the tropes of teen summer camp slashers and applies them to the adult world of work.

Ah, summer camp: the source of so many childhood memories involving s’mores, sleeping under the stars...and violent killing sprees, according to horror movies. From Friday the 13thto In a Violent Nature, the slasher genre has a long history of taking place at campsites and cabins full of horny young people, but it’s good to mix up the formula sometimes. The Conference, or Konferensen in its original Swedish, does exactly that by replacing the usual teenagers with older, far more jaded adults. These new characters aren’t even really friends; they’re co-workers at a corporate retreat led by their superiors – a terrifying enough prospect for some people even without the threat of a masked killer running around. But this is still a slasher movie, so for those worried that a “grown-up” version would skimp out on the kills, never fear: the conference is at a very summer camp-like resort and the movie takes every advantage of that fact to deliver some fun, old-school thrills and kills that just so happen to be seen through the lens of adulthood.
