Hyatt introduced changes to its World of Hyatt guest loyalty program in late 2023 (read more here), including the launch of milestone rewards, awarding members with bonuses through 150 nights, and the introduction of transferable rewards.

There has been a lot of fraud with World of Hyatt lately, as transferrable awards such as Guest of Honor, free night awards, and Suite Upgrade certificates are openly sold on various online platforms.

You can access Hyatt here.

Hyatt’s Update:

PLEASE NOTE: As of June 7, 2025, a Member may be gifted a maximum of ten (10) transferred awards per calendar year in accordance with the process described above. This restriction applies only to the receipt of transferred gift awards. Members remain able to transfer as many eligible awards as they choose.

World of Hyatt members can receive up to 10 transferable awards in a calendar year starting June 7, 2025.

It is unclear if 2025 will be reset on that date or if the limit applies to transactions processed from the beginning of the year.

You may wonder why buying and selling, especially these Guest of Honor, Suite Upgrade Certs, and Club Access awards, would strain the system.

Why would anyone pay for breakfast at a Hyatt hotel when you can buy a Guest of Honor online for $50, which not only awards breakfast for UP TO FOUR people but also confirms a 4 PM check-out, club access, and possible suite upgrades?

Also, hotels with club lounges are overwhelmed by the number of guests who do not pay for access but rather buy club access certificates or Guest of Honor online, depriving the hotel of revenue.

What will happen next if the breakfast or club lounge is only a cost center and doesn’t generate any extra revenue for the property?

Hotels will be ripping away their club lounges (haven’t we seen this already?) and significantly limiting Globalist and Guest of Honor members’ complimentary breakfast (muffin, coffee, and fruit – anyone).

Conclusion

Hyatt very poorly launched these transferrable awards, and only a naïve and inexperienced team would have introduced them in the first place without considering all the possible fraud aspects and the strain these would put on the system.

Hyatt has nobody else to blame for this mess than the program leadership.
