How long does a former employer have to claw back a payment?

My husband worked for a company (#1) for 2 years, then received a promotion to work for a company #1 owned (company #2). He was technically employed by this new company, and the new company's name was on his W2. He was employed by #2 for over 7 years. Co.#2 was sold last fall, and he was subsequently paid by the new company (#3). A couple of weeks ago, he received a direct deposit from #1, despite technically not being employed by them for 8 years. He immediately notified his old boss via text (boss when he worked at #2; she is employed by #1). She notified payroll, they told her it would be reversed that day. It will be 3 weeks on Friday and the money is still in our account. My husband retired from #3 a week after we received the deposit. How long does #1 have to initiate a clawback? When he worked for #1 the office was in IN and we currently live in KY. I have searched the internet but can't find an answer.
