In January this year, Mattel announced a new partnership with Ferrari to develop a full range of Hot Wheels products. This marked the first time in 10 years that Hot Wheels products will have the Prancing Horse on them, and we’re now being introduced to the collection that will be made available to consumers.
The most expensive of the bunch is the Hot Wheels x Ferrari Heritage Set, which is available for pre-orders for USD100 (RM449). Looking to the past and present, the two-car set includes an authentic recreation of the 312 P, which was the first-ever Hot Wheels Ferrari car released in 1969 for the 1970 model year. It is finished in silver plated red Spectraflame paint and features Neo-Classics Redline wheels.
Joining the 312 P is the 499P Modificata, a non-competition but track-only version of the race car – the 499P – that marked Ferrari’s return to prototype endurance racing after a five-decade absence in 2023, securing back-to-back wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023 and 2024. Also painted in silver plate red Sprectraflame, the 499P Modificata gets 10-spoke Real Riders wheels.
Both cars, which are housed in a designer display case, are made in 1:64 scale have bodies made of a zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper (ZAMAC) alloy and the base of full-metal and chrome-plated. While the 312 P has a deep red interior, the 499P Modificata’s is black and it gets Italian flag pinstriping on the outside.
The 499P Modificata is also available separately, albeit with a revised look, as part of the Hot Wheels x Ferrari Premium Series in July in the United States, with other cars in this series being the LaFerrari (available in September) and F50 (available in November), all of which retail for USD6.49 (RM29). A more expensive Ferrari 250 GTO and Fiat 642 RN2 Bartoletti Transporter combo is also offered for USD16.99 (RM74) in October, with all models in the Premium Series sporting die-cast bodies and chassis.
The mainline cars are the most affordable at USD1.25 (RM5.60) and will be rolled out in stages, starting with the SF90 in June, F40 Competizione in July and 365 GTB4 Competizione in August. Finally, a radio-controlled version of the SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano goes on sale in the US in June for USD19.99 (RM90).
