Hocevar tops Texas Cup Series practice

Carson Hocevar was fastest overall in NASCAR Cup Series practice Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in preparation for the Wurth 400. Hocevar topped the board at 190.894 mph (28.288 seconds).

AJ Allmendinger was second fastest at 190.215 mph and Noah Gragson was third fastest at 190.0 mph. Kyle Larson was fourth fastest at 189.927 mph and Michael McDowell completed the top five at 189.833 mph.

Josh Berry was sixth fastest at 189.827 mph, Alex Bowman was seventh fastest at 189.727 mph, and Tyler Reddick was eighth fastest at 189.155 mph. Erik Jones was ninth fastest at 189.148 mph and Austin Dillon rounded out the top 10 at 189.089 mph.

Austin Cindric was 11th fastest in single lap speed. However, Cindric was fastest in the best 10, 15, 20, and 25 lap averages.

William Byron, the point leader, was 15th fastest. Denny Hamlin was 16th fastest.

Chase Elliott was 23rd fastest. Elliott is the defending winner at Texas Motor Speedway. It is also the most recent points-paying win Elliott and his team have on the tour.

Ryan Blaney was 24th fastest, Christopher Bell was 25th fastest, and Kyle Busch was 30th fastest. Joey Logano was 31st fastest.

There were no significant incidents in practice. Shane van Gisbergen, however, did scrape the wall off Turn 2, and rubbed some of the wrap off his Chevrolet above the right-rear wheel.

The Cup Series race will have 39 teams take the green flag. The two Open teams are the Beard Motorsports entry with Jesse Love and the Garage 66 entry with Chad Finchum.
