Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists is reportedly in final negotiations to acquire the upcoming Henry Cavill-led “Highlander” reboot from Lionsgate.
Previously, Lionsgate had been planning an entire screen universe for the franchise, which the film’s director Chad Stahelski would oversee.
Under the new deal, United Artists will now have full rights to the franchise that stretches back to the 1986 original starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery and deals with feuding immortals who battle across the centuries.
Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will also board as producers, joining Neal H. Moritz and Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment company. Michael Fench (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) is penning the script.
The new “Highlander” has been in development for a decade. Once Cavill boarded the film in 2021, the hope was that things would get moving. Sadly, previously reported start dates have come and gone without production commencing.
Cavill has most recently been working on the live-action “Voltron” film and is developing “Warhammer 40,000” as a franchise.
