Heat’s Tyler Herro takes home NBA Three-Point Contest crown

There’s a new three-point king in the NBA.

Miami Heat first-time All-Star Tyler Herro claimed the crown in the NBA’s three-point contest at NBA All-Star Saturday, taking down Buddy Hield of the Golden State Warriors and Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the finals.

Herro opened the finals by netting 24 points after going two-for-two on the deep ‘Starry Range’ shots, setting a mark that neither of his competitors could overcome.

Garland was unable to keep pace after some early struggles and a lack of consistency, finishing with only 19 points. Hield, meanwhile, after a slow start, almost clawed his way back but finished one shy with 23 points,

The hometown hero Hield put on a show in the first round, tying the all-time record with 31 points set by Warriors teammate Steph Curry in 2021 and matched by Tyrese Haliburton in 2023.

Garland also starred in the first with 24 points, dominating on his money rack to set a high mark early on and secure his spot in the final almost right away. Herro finished with 19 in the first round en route to his eventual win.

Among those eliminated in the first round was Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard, who just like Patrick Mahomes, fell short of a threepeat following his wins in 2023 and 2024. Cam Johnson, Norman Powell, Cade Cunningham and Jalen Brunson were also knocked out in the opening round.

This marks the fifth time a member of the Heat has won the three-point contest, with the last being James Jones at the 2011 All-Star weekend.
