Green Day casting “punks, alts, hardcore, emo and rockers” for new comedy film, mud fight scene included

As you may have heard, Green Day and Live Nation are involved in an upcoming coming-of-age comedy called New Years Rev that’s based in part on the band’s early years of touring in a van. Per The Wrap, the film stars Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman & Ryan Foust “as a trio of friends who mistakenly think they have been chosen as Green Day’s opening act and head off on a road trip to Los Angeles to make it for their New Year’s Eve show,” and now a casting call has been put out asking for “punks, alts, hardcore, emo and rockers aged 18-30” to appear in a concert scene that’s being filmed in the Oklahoma City area from February 24-27. Is that you? If so, submit here.

The casting call description says that one day will be a “rain and mud fight” event, so it sounds like there’s going to be a scene based on Green Day’s set at Woodstock ’94. “Warming stations and blankets will be provided,” the call promises. “There will be live music, skateboarding and a rowdy good time.” The call also points out that everyone gets an additional $25 (on top of the $101.50/day guarantee) “on the day they get wet and muddy.”

New Years Rev is being written and directed by Lee Kirk, and it also stars The Office alums Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer, along with Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo. Green Day’s Billie Joe Arstrong, Mike Dirnt, Tré Cool are all producers on the project, along with Tim Perell and Stella Bulochnikov.

In a statement, Billie Joe said, “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”
