The Google Pixel 9a is going to be available in four colors this year, leaving Google as one of the only smartphone makers to really offer some fun colors for their devices. These colors include Iris, Peony, Porcelain, and Obsidian. Which are very similar to the colors available for the rest of the Pixel 9 lineup.

The Iris color is a bit of a muted purple, but not as muted as Apple’s iPhone 15 colors were. It’s a nice change from the usual porcelain and obsidian colors that Google offers with every Pixel. At the same time, the Peony is a pretty bright pink color. It honestly looks really nice, and if you’re into pink, you’ll love this color.

Then we have Porcelain and Obsidian. These are the white and black colors that Google always offers. The Obsidian has more of an off-white color this time around, particularly with the frame. Remember, the frame of the Pixel 9a is aluminum while the backside is plastic. The Obsidian color is also all black, with a slightly lighter color on the frame since it’s a different material.

Pixel 9a goes on sale next month for $499

Google Pixel 9a starts at $499 and will be on store shelves next month. The 256GB model is going to be priced at $599, as well as the mmWave model for Verizon. Originally, the Pixel 9a was set to be available for pre-orders today, and ship next week. However, a last-minute change has delayed that. And now the Pixel 9a will be available next month.

The Pixel 9a is a bit of an interesting upgrade this year. Google upgraded the battery to a 5,100mAh cell, the display is now bigger and brighter, but the camera seems to be a downgrade. Google swapped out the 64-megapixel primary camera for a 48-megapixel primary camera that also has a smaller lens. We’ll have to wait and see how well the pictures turn out, once we get a review unit in our hands, but on paper, it definitely looks like a downgrade.

Then there’s the design. Instead of Google bringing the Pixel 9 series design over to the a-series, it decided to go with a nearly flat back, ditching the camera bar. That’s something that made the Pixel unique and stand out. Now, the Pixel 9a looks kind of plain. Some people will like it, others will hate it.
