Goodyear will introduce a new slick tire compound for the LMP2 category at this weekend’s 4 Hours of Le Castellet, the second round of the European Le Mans Series season.

The American manufacturer has been the exclusive tire supplier for the championship’s LMP2 class since 2021, with all 21 Oreca 07 Gibsons on this year’s ELMS field running on Goodyear Eagles.

The new compound, which has been developed with a goal to further improve performance and durability for drivers across race stints, will also be used in next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“This new specification is an evolution of our existing slick LMP2 compound,” said Joao Coelho, Goodyear’s Testing & Track Support Manager.

“It has undergone extensive testing in close collaboration with several LMP2 teams, both on track and through simulation work.

“Their input has been very valuable in helping us fine-tune the construction to suit the specific demands of endurance racing.

“That partnership has allowed us to introduce a tire that delivers even higher standards of performance, and maintains the reliability needed for endurance races as gruelling as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”

The introduction of Goodyear’s new tire comes against the background of the ongoing tender process to find suppliers for both chassis as well as powertrain for the next generation of LMP2 machinery that will debut in 2028.

Meanwhile, LMGT3 cars in ELMS will continue to make use of Goodyear’s Eagle Medium compound this season.
