Seven community groups and charities have received funding from Glasgow Airport FlightPath Fund which has made £130,000 available for successful applicants in 2025.

The airport’s FlightPath Fund was established in 2010 to provide financial support to organisations committed to improving the opportunities, facilities and services available to local people. Since then, it has awarded almost £2 million to over 800 local community groups and charities across Renfrewshire, the northwest Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire.

More than £15,000 was awarded to seven charities and community groups following the fund’s first meeting of the year. The committee is once again encouraging neighbouring groups and organisations to submit applications and is particularly keen to support sustainability projects aimed at improving the environment in the communities surrounding the airport.

In its first meeting the Glasgow Airport FlightPath awarded grants to the following groups:

  • £2,555 for Double L Centre for new electric heaters and cages
  • £500 for Bearsden and Milngavie Highland Games Association for additional costs to host women competitors.
  • £669 to Bearsden Academy PTA for the purchase of a 3D printer.
  • £1,590 to Kilbowie Primary School PC to purchase six Gabion benches.
  • £4,500 to Ocean Youth Trust Scotland for covering life-changing youth work voyages for 30 youngsters.
  • £1,500 to St Catherine’s Primary School Parents’ Council towards the construction of a Health and Wellbeing Garden.
  • £3,800 to St Vincent’s Hospice towards bactericide handrails.

Archie Hunter, Chair of the FlightPath Fund, said: “The FlightPath Fund is now in its 15th year and throughout this time it has made a significant and positive impact on the local communities surrounding the airport. Our committee, which comprises dedicated councillors from the four neighbouring local authorities, ensure that the funds are directed to those groups that can bring positive benefits and change the lives of people in the communities the airport serves.

“We are always impressed by the quality of the applications we receive, and I am really pleased we have been able to support these seven groups following our first meeting of 2025. Together with the rest of the committee, I look forward to ensuring even more people can benefit from the £130k the airport has made available through the FlightPath Fund this year.”

One of the first groups to receive funding in 2025 is the Ocean Youth Trust which is a leading youth work development charity that delivers an annual programme of life-changing residential sail training voyages for young people

Katie Nawrath, Fundraising Assistant at Ocean Youth Trust Scotland who received £4,500 from the FlightPath Fund, said: “Our voyages are about so much more than just sailing, especially for the young people involved with Cashback for Communities.

“After their voyage young people often report feeling more confident, optimist about the future and less inclined to take part in anti-social behaviour or criminal activity.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Flightpath Fund for supporting the delivery of three of these voyages this year. Thanks to their funding, we can give more young people a life changing experience, that will help them thrive in the future.”

In 2024, 65 separate groups and charities received a share of the £120,000 funding available. Glasgow Airport passengers travelling through the airport also contribute to the FlightPath Fund’s efforts through numerous donation globes placed throughout the terminal. In 2024, more than £8,100 in spare currency from around the world was collected from these globes.
