Former aide knocks Trump over investigation of former cybersecurity appointee

Former White House press secretary Sarah Matthews slammed the Trump administration for launching an investigation into Chris Krebs, who was ousted from his post as director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in 2020.

“Before the election, I warned repeatedly that Trump would go after those he saw as political enemies,” Matthews wrote in a Wednesday post on the social platform X.

“Now he’s targeting a public servant who simply did his job and told the truth about the 2020 election being secure because it doesn’t fit with his lies.”

On Thursday, President Trump signed two memorandums ordering the Department of Justice to revoke Krebs’s security clearance and investigate the former cybersecurity official alongside  Miles Taylor, who served as a deputy chief of staff in the Department of Homeland Security during the first Trump administration.

The president fired Krebs in a social media post for dispelling claims that the 2020 presidential election results were flawed.

Trump called Krebs a "wise guy" in response to questions from reporters Thursday in the Oval Office.

“I'm sure I met him, but I didn't know him. And he came out right after the election, which was a rigged election, a badly rigged election,” Trump said.

“We did phenomenally in that election,” he added.

Trump said a further investigation would reveal more details about Krebs, whom he said had caused a “disaster” with his statements contradicting Trump.

“They used COVID to cheat. And we're going to find out about this guy, too, because this guy's a wise guy. He said, ‘We've proved this is the most secure election in the history of our country,’” the president said.

“Now, this was a disaster.”
