The Philadelphia Flyers may be without a blue liner to start next season.
Defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen underwent arm surgery and is expected to be out for six months, the team announced on Thursday.
The March 26 procedure was intended to repair a right triceps tendon rupture. The team had said he was week-to-week with an upper-body injury earlier in the month.
As a result, Ristolainen will miss the start of the training camp next season.
The 30-year-old from Turku, Finland, had 19 points (four goals and 15 assists) in 63 games with the Flyers this season. He was also fourth on the team in average ice time at 20:31 per game.
He was named to Finland’s roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off but did not play in the tournament due to injury.
Ristolainen is signed through the 2026-27 season at a $5.1 million cap hit.
The Flyers tied for last in the Eastern Conference with a 33-39-10 record, good for 76 points. They own a 9.5 per chance of claiming the No. 1 pick in the draft.
