Flames sign Matt Coronato to seven-year contract extension

The Calgary Flames have locked up a talented young player for the foreseeable future.

The team announced Saturday that Matt Coronato has signed a seven-year extension with the Flames, with an average annual value of $6.5 million.

“Matt wants to be here long term, and that says a lot about him and where this is kind of going, moving forward,” said Flames general manager Craig Conroy in a statement released by the team.

The Sophomore winger scored 23 goals and added 24 assists for 47 points over 77 games in his first full NHL season.

Selected by the Flames 13th overall in 2021, Coronato took a step forward this season along with his team, as the Flames recorded their highest point total in the past three seasons and narrowly missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After finishing third on the team in both goals and assists in his age-22 season, Coronato figures to be an important part of Calgary’s offence going forward.
