Calgary Flames fans have to be excited about what they’re seeing from Zayne Parekh in the junior ranks.
The Flames prospect joined some guy named Bobby Orr in the OHL historical database on Sunday with a unique feat.
Parekh scored the final goal in the Saginaw Spirit’s 8-3 win over the North Bay Battalion, giving the defenceman 30 goals on the season.
Parekh is just the second defenceman in OHL/OHA history to score 30-plus goals in multiple seasons. The other is Orr, who did it from 1964-66 with the Oshawa Generals.
Picked ninth overall by the Flames in 2024 after helping the Spirit win the Memorial Cup on home ice last year, Parekh also notched three assists on Sunday. With 30 goals and 66 assists for 96 points in 55 games, the native of Markham, Ont., has 21 more points than the league’s next No. 2-scoring defenceman.
The Spirit, also featuring top 2025 NHL Draft prospect and league-leading scorer Michael Misa, are fourth in the Western Conference standings.
Parekh or Misa both were not selected for the Canadian junior team that was eliminated in the quarterfinals at this year’s world junior championship.
