Featurette: The Alex Garland Co-Directed “Warfare”

A24 has released a new featurette going into the making of Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland’s “Warfare” which is slated to open in cinemas shortly.

Mendoza is an Iraq War veteran who served as the military supervisor on Garland’s controversial 2024 title “Civil War” which A24 released last year to much discussion.

Charles Melton, Joseph Quinn, Kit Connor, Cosmo Jarvis, Will Poulter, Finn Bennett, Noah Centineo, Taylor John Smith, Adain Bradley, Michael Gandolfini, Henrique Zaga, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai and Evan Holtzman star in the new film.

The story follows a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory.

The project is dubbed a “visceral, boots-on-the-ground story” told in real-time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.

The cast and crew underwent an extreme boot camp to “really form this Navy SEAL culture” says Melton. Garland says “The entire cast and crew, including myself, felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility” creating this project.

“Warfare” will be released in United States cinemas on April 11th.
