Ingrid Bergman should not be mixed up with Ingmar Bergman, even though the surnames are identical and those first names can look pretty similar, too, upon first glance. It’s wise, surely, if one is typing up about one of the Bergmans to do a CTRL+F search to make sure only the right Bergmans show up. You can do it now, if you want, and feel very clever if you see a wrong Bergman. Things get even worse if you want to talk about Autumn Sonata, seeing as that movie was directed by Ingmar Bergman and starred Ingrid Bergman, and the latter received her final Oscar nomination for her role in that film. She was great there, and honestly, she was rather excellent in most of the films she appeared in. Plenty of her most iconic roles didn’t see her getting any nominations at the Academy Awards, though, let alone wins, including the likes of Casablanca, Notorious, and Stromboli.
