Etiquette about who should tell other people about a friend's death
A good friend of mine killed himself two days ago. We are all devastated. I absolutely can't think clearly, and I have no idea of what is the proper etiquette in this situation relative to informing other people about it. Should I tell about his death to other good friends of mine, who were 'just' acquaintances to him? Or should I stay silent, and leave his partner or family make the announcement to them? I think I shouldn't bother his partner and family with this silly question, because they have more important things to deal with right now, and his partner explicitly asked for leaving her space in the coming days because she's overwhelmed. On the other hand, I don't want to do something inappropriate and add to their pain, with an announcement that might be not my place to make. Hence why I ask this question here. What is the proper etiquette in this situation? I live in France, but I assume that the etiquette is similar in other Western countries. Thank you,
