EFL boss sacked three months after appointment with just two games remaining

West Brom have sacked manager Tony Mowbray, the club have confirmed. The Baggies have taken the decision due to a series of poor results that has all-but cost them a spot in the Championship play-offs. The latest result was a shock 3-1 defeat to Derby County on Easter Monday. It leaves West Brom in 10th position in the table and six points from the play-off spots. A West Brom statement said: “West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with Head Coach Tony Mowbray. “Assistant Head Coach Mark Venus has also departed the club. “The club would like to place on record its thanks to Tony and Mark for their efforts – but has made the decision to part company following a series of poor results. “Tony and Mark will forever be welcome at The Hawthorns and their contributions to the club winning the 2007/08 Sky Bet Championship title will never be forgotten. “Everyone at Albion wishes Tony and Mark all the very best in the future. “James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis, assisted by Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill.  “The process of recruiting a new Head Coach is now under way.” Mowbray was sacked with West Brom set to miss out on the play-offsGetty Mowbray lasted just three months in charge, having been appointed on January 19. In that time, he managed the club just 17 times. He was confirmed as the Baggies new head coach, with the Englishman succeeding Carlos Corberan in the dugout. Mowbray, who recently recovered from bowel cancer, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract which saw him take charge of West Brom for a second time. He previously served as manager between 2006 and 2009, and guided to the club to promotion to the Premier League in 2008. Mowbray left the Hawthorns for Celtic following the relegation and has since managed the likes of Middlesbrough, Coventry, Blackburn and Sunderland.
