The Los Angeles Kings announced Saturday that their veteran defenceman has been named to Team Canada to replace Alex Pietrangelo at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Pietrangelo, who was initially named to Team Canada, withdrew from the tournament on Jan. 26 citing ongoing ailments and the desire to remain healthy for the remainder of the Vegas Golden Knights’ regular season.
Doughty is no stranger to representing his country on the international stage. He won back-to-back Olympic golds with Canada in 2010 and 2014, and won gold at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey with Canada.
The 35-year-old has played just six games since making his season debut on Jan. 29, but has been a workhorse through his 17-year career and has suited up in 1,182 NHL games. In that time, he’s scored 156 goals and 670 points with two Stanley Cups under his belt.
The 4 Nations Face-Off begins Wednesday, Feb. 12. Catch all the action on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
