No matter where he is, Max Muncy is ready to make an impact for the Dodgers.
The slugging third baseman ripped a double in the second inning of Wednesday’s Tokyo Series game against the Cubs to join a rare group. He is the fourth major league player to record a hit in five different countries or territories.
Muncy now has hits in the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Japan. According to MLB Network’s Sarah Langs, the only other players to have hits in five different countries or territories are Xander Bogaerts (U.S., Canada, Mexico, England and South Korea), Paul Goldschmidt (U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia and the United Kingdom) and Edgardo Alfonzo (U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Japan).
Muncy’s Dodgers teammate Mookie Betts has hits in four countries in his career but missed this week’s Tokyo Series with an illness.
The double by Muncy sparked a two-run second inning by the Dodgers, who took the first game 4-1 on Tuesday.
