Dev Patel has been set to write, direct, produce and star in the period action revenge thriller “The Peasant” which has been set up at Fifth Season and Thunder Road Pictures.
Set in the 1300s, it centers on a shepherd who embarks on a rage-fueled campaign against a group of mercenary knights who ransacked his community, revealing himself to be more than he seems.
Described as “Braveheart” and “John Wick” with hints of Arthurian legend, the film will blend medieval knights with feudal India.
Will Dunn (“Ms. Marvel”) penned the script which landed on the 2023 Black List. Under Patel’s guidance, the setting is being changed from Italy to India with a slightly more “colorfully vibrant and almost mystical” vibe.
Patel and Dunn are collaborating on the new drafts with the aim being the project could be a potential franchise launcher.
The film follows on from Patel and Thunder Road previously collaborating on Patel’s directorial debut “Monkey Man” which he also co-wrote and starred in.
