A Delta Air Lines flight was evacuated Monday after one of its engines caught fire prior to departure at Orlando International Airport.
Shortly after 11 a.m. EDT, Delta flight 1213 was “pushing back from the gate for departure” when one of its two engines caught fire, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement, according to NewsNation.
Delta said its crew members followed procedures when flames “were observed” and all 282 passengers on board were evacuated. There were also 10 flight attendants and two pilots aboard.
Some passengers evacuated using emergency slides from the aircraft.
Delta said the fire was extinguished and no initial injuries were reported. Delta said maintenance teams would examine the aircraft.
All passengers returned to the terminal and Delta planned to bring in an additional aircraft. The flight was originally headed to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
"We appreciate our customers' cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible,” Delta said in a statement.
The FAA said it would investigate the incident.
