He was met with another cheer from the crowd as he retrieved the case from the floor before smiling and saluting the fans. Co-commentator John Part also saw the funny side, joking: “The most important part to remember about playing a match is to bring your darts.” Despite the unusual start to the match, Cross went on to win 2-0 in the best of three sets encounter. The 34-year-old was unable to go any further, though, losing to Krzysztof Ratajski in the second round. The world number four faces Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. Cross sits one place below his opponent in fifth after reaching five semi-finals in the opening seven weeks of the event. It is his sixth participation in the Premier League since a debut appearance in 2018. However, he has not qualified for the play-offs since losing to Van Gerwen in the 2019 final.
