“Dark City” Is Coming To 4K Disc In June

Arrow Video has announced a June 24th release date for a 4K Ultra HD physical release of Alex Proyas’ acclaimed 1998 sci-fi noir film “Dark City”.

The first film shot at Fox Studios Australia (just before “The Matrix”), the new edition boasts a new 4K restoration from the original negatives and approved by director of photography Dariusz Wolski.

The disc will include both the 100-minute theatrical version and the 111-minute director’s cut, and both have the original DTS-HD MA 5.1 track, stereo 2.0 track, and new Dolby Atmos audio options.

The extras are packed with no less than five commentaries including two all new ones – one from Proyas himself and one from the Film Versus Film podcast, a ‘Return to Dark City’ hour-long documentary and two 2008 featurettes.

There’s also two new visual essays by film scholars Alexandra West and Josh Nelson, storyboards, trailer, stills, fold-out poster, art cards, and 60-page perfect-bound book filled with new writing about the film by authors and critics.

Several years ago Proyas teased a TV series based on the franchise was in early development but nothing appears to have come from it.
