“Daredevil: Born Again” Finale Draws Reactions

Disney+ released its “Daredevil: Born Again” first season finale yesterday, and the response so far has been surprisingly varied considering the series started off with such a strong level of excitement and anticipation.

Part of the issue appears to be some were hoping for cameos that didn’t happen. The episode saw the unsurprising return of characters from earlier in the season, most notably Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher.

A post-credits sequence seems to serve as set up for his upcoming standalone special. In fact, a lot of the episode served as setup for the second season, the finale ending with a quite dark scenario for when the show returns next year.

What wasn’t there were any other members of The Defenders or other Marvel cameos from characters outside of the series, even as events of the finale will have big impact on the MCU and more specifically on any superheroes/vigilantes operating in New York (this means you Spider-Man, Jessica Jones, etc.).

This has resulted in debate about the finale – some dubbing it the best episode of the season, including the IMDb where users have currently voted it the best with a 9.2/10, to others on social media or in forums who seem let down.

The second season is expected to touch upon the “Shadowland” storyline of the comic after set photos have revealed Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in a black outfit. Actor Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, was asked about that possibility by Variety and said: “That’s a very good question. I don’t know if I can answer that question. But it’s a good one. You’re obviously following the story in a good way.”

D’Onofrio also confirms he’s not involved in the “Punisher” one-shot. He and Cox have also posted a video teasing the second season on social media, check out the clip below.
