6:57pm: Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the option could push the contract to $57MM, suggesting there’s a $12MM difference between the price and any buyout. Escalators could push the number as high as $72MM.
6:55pm: The Diamondbacks reached agreement are in agreement with shortstop Geraldo Perdomo on a four-year, $45MM extension, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. The deal covers the 2026-29 seasons and includes a club option for 2030. Mike Rodriguez first reported that the Snakes and Perdomo had come to terms on an extension.
Perdomo and the Snakes had already agreed to a $2.55MM salary to cover his first season of arbitration. That’ll remain unchanged. The deal buys out his final two arbitration seasons and at least two would-be free agent years, with the option covering a third free agent season. Perdomo had been on track to hit free agency in advance of his age-28 season. If the D-Backs exercise their option for 2030, he’d get to the market at age 31.
The switch-hitting Perdomo has established himself as Arizona’s shortstop behind a solid glove and strong plate approach. He debuted in 2021 but didn’t get a real opportunity until the following season. Perdomo provided very little offensively as a rookie, but he has been a league average hitter over the last two years.
More to come.
