Corey Conners qualified for the prestigious major with a third place finish in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Golf Club on Sunday.
The Listowel, Ont. native finished two strokes back of winner Russell Henley after shooting nine under par in the tournament. He concluded by recording a 71 on Sunday.
Conners, 33, secured a spot in The Open as the highest finisher at Bay Hill — not otherwise exempt or already in the field for Royal Portrush — as part of The Open Qualifying Series.
No Canadian has won The Open or finished as a runner up. It will be Conners’ sixth time participating.
