Conor McGregor-owned promotion announces new combat sport that could rival Dana White’s promotion

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) is expanding its combat sports portfolio, venturing onto the ice with a new league. This week the promotion, that is part-owned by UFC star Conor McGregor, announced that it acquired a stake in the on-ice fight league Ice Wars, paving the way for the creation of BKFC Ice Wars. McGregor’s BKFC is diversifying its combat sports venturesGetty The new venture is being touted as a combat sports promotion specializing in ‘legal, sanctioned, and regulated hockey fights.’ The inaugural event, called ‘Battle of the Borders’ in June will feature fighters from the United States and Canada. Fights on the rink during ice hockey matches are an established part of the game and this now merges prize fighting with that. Some online joked the bizarre new league could even be better than Power Slap, which is presided over by UFC CEO Dana White – McGregor’s boss. Power Slap is a promotion that features slap fighting, which according to White is worth more than $400m already. “Better then power slap,” one wrote on X, while others simply struggled to get their heads around the concept. David Feldman, founder and president of BKFC, remarked: “We’ve been watching what the team at Ice Wars has been building, and it’s been incredible to see the passionate response they’ve received from audiences. “Their vision and energy align perfectly with what we do at BKFC—bringing raw, high-adrenaline combat sports to fans in a way they’ve never seen before. “Partnering with them to create BKFC Ice Wars was an easy decision, and we’re excited to take this to the next level together.” Effective striking will be judged by the impact of legal strikes landed by each fighter, based purely on the outcomes of such strikes. Effective aggressiveness signifies an unwavering determination to finish the fight. Control of the fighting area is gauged by who is dominating the pace, place, and positioning of the bout. Weight classes are defined as follows: Heavyweight (over 200 lbs.), Cruiserweight (175 to 200 lbs.), Middleweight (150 to 175 lbs.), and Lightweight (under 150 lbs.).
