“Verity” has set a date.
Amazon MGM Studios will roll out the Colleen Hoover adaptation, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, on May 15, 2026.
The official synopsis for the adaptation reads: “Struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh is hired as a ghostwriter for renowned author Verity Crawford under mysterious circumstances, but her assignment takes a dark turn after discovering chilling autobiographical notes. Faced with a series of deadly family secrets, Lowen struggles to separate fiction from reality, while also blurring the lines with Verity’s husband, Jeremy.”
The adaptation was written by Nick Antosca (prior writers on the project include Hoover adn Lauren Levine, Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and Will Honley and April Maguire), produced by Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway and Hoover. It was executive produced by Johnson, Levine and Kerry Orent.
The cast for “Verity” also includes Ismael Cruz Cordóva and Brady Wagner.
An adaptation of Hoover’s novel “It Ends With Us” opened last summer from Sony and made more than $350 million worldwide.
The placement of “Verity” for next spring serves as a clever bit of counterprogramming, since the other two titles announced for May definitely skew more male: Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday,” which currently has a release date of May 1, 2026; and Lucasfilm’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which is the first big screen “Star Wars” project since 2019’s underwhelming “The Rise of Skywalker.”
