Coachella: Green Day wears a Brat hat, covers Operation Ivy; Charli XCX says “Turnstile Summer”

Coachella weekend 2 is underway and there have been a few surprises that the first weekend didn’t get. Charli XCX gave a different version of her “is Brat summer over?” on-screen text monologue, this time saying maybe it’s time for, among other things, a Turnstile summer? She also namedropped Bon Iver, Lorde, Addison Rae, Perfume Genius, A$AP Rocky, Haim, PinkPantheress, Yung Lean, Kali Uchis, Pulp, and more. After bringing Lorde, Billie Eilish, and Troye Sivan out during weekend one, she brought out Addison Rae for the “Von Dutch” scream during weekend two and had Bowen Yang do the “Apple” dance.

Following Charli XCX’s viral Miss Should Be Headliner sash, a photo surfaced of Green Day‘s Tré Cool wearing a makeshift “Actual Headliner” sash (very Brat imo). But it’s all in good clean fun; Billie Joe Armstrong wore a Brat hat on stage.

Green Day’s weekend 2 set was also special because it saw them breaking out their cover of Operation Ivy‘s “Knowledge.” It was their first time since before the American Idiot/Dookie/Saviors tour began, and regardless of how long it had been, it’s pretty amazing to think they played an Op Ivy song on such a massive, international stage. They also continued their long-standing tradition of inviting a fan up to play guitar during it (they let her keep it).
