It was San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey’s mother, Lisa McCaffrey, who started her own anti-Taylor Swift discourse around the 2025 Super Bowl back in February.
At the time, Lisa told daughter-in-law Olivia Culpo that Swift — whose boyfriend is Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — was “dead to us” during the lead-up to the Chiefs face-off against the 49ers on Super Bowl Sunday.

“I refuse to listen to Taylor Swift songs for the next couple days,” Lisa told Culpo on the NFL mom’s Your Mom podcast. (Culpo and Christian wed in 2024.) “I love her, I love the relationship, but we are boycotting any T. Swift songs. If she pops up on the radio station… nope. She’s dead to us this week.”
Swifties immediately condemned Lisa’s comments, with many pointing out that it was Kelce, not Swift, who was playing against Christian.
Now, Ed McCaffrey — Christian’s father and Lisa’s husband, and a former NFL star himself — is speaking out about the drama that went down two months ago. In his new comments, he particularly comes to the defense of Lisa, whom he calls “one of the biggest Taylor Swift fans.”
In a new interview with Fox News, published on Tuesday, February 15, Ed showed off a piece of Swift decor in the family’s home.
“In terms of being a fan of Taylor Swift, that is in our house,” the former wide receiver shared with the outlet, pointing to the Swiftian item.
“My wife Lisa has probably been one of the biggest Taylor Swift fans despite the fact that she’s dating Travis Kelce,” he continued, “and obviously the 49ers had to play them in the Super Bowl, Lisa is an incredible fan, she’s such a phenomenal artist.”
As for the drama stirred up by Lisa’s initial comments, “I don’t know why that was such a big deal back then… I don’t even remember what it was about,” Ed told the outlet. “Just to put that matter to rest, we were fans long before she was dating Travis Kelce, and I don’t even remember what happened with the Super Bowl, but there are certainly no issues here in the McCaffrey family.”
