Chris Eubank Jr under official investigation after concerning videos before Conor Benn fight

Chris Eubank Jr will be investigated by the British Boxing Board of Control after posting videos of his brutal weight cut. Eubank Jr beat Benn in a sensational all-British battle in front of 60,000 fans but the build-up was plagued with controversy. Eubank Jr will face investigation for his pre-fight videos ‘Next Gen’ missed the 160lbs weight limit and was charged £350,000 from his fight purse as a result. He had only missed the limit by 0.05lbs and had tried desperately to get the weight off using an array of methods. Boxing fans had become deeply concerned, as footage emerged of Eubank Jr using a sauna suit to try and cut weight. Eubank Jr was covered in sweat and flexed his skinny physique as he struggled to reach the limit. But with the videos emerging on his social media, the BBBofC are officially examining if the weight cut broke their rules according to Boxing Scene. The BBBofC rules indicate that use of a sauna and heat suit are strictly prohibited. British boxing chief Robert Smith said: “The problem arose because he was late for the weigh-in. “If he’d have got there on time, considering he was only slightly over, he’d have made weight. “I don’t know what they were doing. But by turning up late, it meant he had very little time to get down to the contracted weight. “We had no concerns. Eubank was on track to make 160lbs. Despite his efforts, Eubank Jr did miss weight and was fined, but was able to meet the 170lbs rehydration limit the following day on fight night. Eubank Jr’s struggles at 160lbs were well documented, having faced similar adversity to make 159lbs for his two fights with Liam Smith. The Briton is more comfortable making the super-middleweight limit of 168lbs, and could move to the division going forward in his career. GettyDespite his struggles, Eubank Jr won the fight[/caption] Benn moved up from 147lbs to make the weight with a much easier process, but insists he will return to the division eventually after his defeat. A rematch could be on the cards given ‘The Destroyer’ has the option of activating a contracted clause. And Eubank Jr would likely be forced to boil down again for one final time, with terms already in place. Any sequel could land in September according to Saudi boxing kingpin Turki Allashikh, who has already pencilled in the event.
