Chelsea fans have expressed delight over an injury to their own player Christopher Nkunku, insisting they never want to see him play again.

It emerged on Wednesday that Nkunku had picked up a small knock in training and won’t be in the squad to face Djurgården on Thursday night, while goalkeeper Robert Sanchez also will not feature due to injury.

Nkunku has reportedly been left back in England, ruling him out of Chelsea’s Conference League semi-final first leg clash in Stockholm.

The 27-year-old forward has shined in the competition this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists in nine Conference League games.

But some Chelsea supporters are furious with the Frenchman, who is believed to have told the club he wants to leave in the summer window.

Despite impressing in Europe, Nkunku – who joined Chelsea in a £52m deal from RB Leipzig in 2023has been unable to hold down a regular role in the Blues’ team and has started just nine games in the Premier League.

After news of his latest injury setback, a number of Chelsea fans celebrated the news, with @BambinoWillito posting on Reddit: ‘Sincerely hope we never see Nkunku play again for us.’

‘I’m I a bad guy for being happy Nkunku [is] not playing?’ @bleeding-ducks asked.

‘Hopefully we never see Nkunku play for us again,’ Chelsea fan @Critzor posted.

@TheRedPillMonk described Nkunku being ruled out as a ‘blessing’ while @Rofocal02 insisted that it was ‘good news’ for the west Londoners.

Speaking to Metro last week, Frank Leboeuf urged Chelsea and Nkunku to ‘cut their losses’ and go their separate ways.

‘I think they need to cut their losses and go their separate ways,’ the former Chelsea centre-back said via BetVictor. ‘It’s best for the club but also the future of the player. Careers are pretty short so you have to react quickly if it doesn’t work.

‘And it can happen like this – sometimes the chemistry doesn’t work. I was very happy to see him come to Chelsea, but it’s never worked. ‘He’s never been able to settle down, maybe because the position he’s been offered wasn’t the right one.

‘It’s always difficult to come from a family club like Leipzig to a club where you have to perform and the pressure is one you always. I had that when I moved from Strasbourg to Chelsea and it’s a big task if you’re not able to cope with the situation.

‘It’s never worked for him but he’s still a good player. He will have to rebound but we’ve seen that before with players like Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah when they left.’
