During the Spring Mountain Race Series’ March race weekend, drivers encountered the challenging Charleston Peak South Course. Even the most skilled drivers found the configuration demanding, leading to fierce battles throughout the Sports Car Series and Radical Cup Challenge grids.
Intense competition unfolded across all classes of the Sports Car Series, with the GTL class captivating everyone. The fierce matchups showcased impressive performances by Michele Abbate, Gabriel Giannattasio, and Chad Lancaster. Regrettably, Abbate encountered transmission problems in Race 2, which cost her a chance at the podium. Giannattasio finished third, while Lancaster secured second place — a vital result that leaves him just two points shy of the class championship lead. Meanwhile, Randy Wonnenberg demonstrated exceptional consistency, securing first place following a weekend of impressive racing.
The rivalry in the GT4 class between Mike Dean and Tom MacMillan remained thrilling, with Dean emerging victorious this time. MacMillan took second place, while Paul Chamberlain completed the podium third.
In the GTU class, Dana Blackhurst made his season debut and narrowly missed the podium. Jeff Fraser fought back from an off-track excursion to finish third, crediting Sigier for their track support. Brian Reynolds secured second place, earning valuable championship points as the season approaches its conclusion. Finally, Mark Ramsey claimed the top spot on the podium, showcasing a new livery on his car and breaking his class track record process.
The Radical Cup Challenge showcased spirited racing, impressive lap times, and unexpected shake-ups throughout the event weekend.
In the Gold class, both Brandon Rambo and Ron Fletcher were early favorites; however, their chances of reaching the podium dwindled when Rambo experienced a DNF in Race 1 and Fletcher met the same fate in Race 2. With the frontrunners out, Jon Hirshberg secured third place, finishing just behind Doug Ramirez in second. These two had a close battle, as they both posted nearly identical lap times and even set the exact same qualifying time down to a thousandth of a second for Race 2. However, the weekend belonged to Mark Rohrwasser, who delivered an incredible performance to take first place. Despite setbacks in both races, Rohrwasser made an impressive comeback in Race 1 after going off track and dropping to the back of the pack. He fought his way back to the front, regaining every position lost plus one.
In the Silver class, Brian Reynolds finished in second place, pushing hard to catch Jim Mason, who ultimately secured first place. Mason has had a strong season in the Silver Class and sits just 55 points behind Reynolds in the championship standings.
Finally, the Rookie class continues to impress, with lap times consistently improving in each race. Bruce Semler secured a strong second-place finish, while Jason Horwitz claimed victory once more, extending his winning streak.
