There’s a new top dog on the defensive back market.

Cornerback Jaycee Horn has taken over the top spot as the league’s highest-paid defensive back after agreeing to a record four-year, $100 million contract with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced Monday.

Horn had one more year on his contract after the team picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal comes with $70 million guaranteed and Horn can earn a max of $108 million with incentives. The deal will keep him in Carolina through the 2029 season.

Horn, 25, surpassed seven-time Pro Bowler Jalen Ramsey, who is earning $24.1 million per season and 2024 defensive player of the year Patrick Surtain II, who agreed to a four-year deal earning him $24 million annually at the start of last season.

Though he may not have the resumes of the above players as of yet, Horn earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season after hawking one interception and only allowing a 53.2 completion percentage on passes defended. He had a career-high 13 passes defended and 2.0 sacks last season.

Horn was selected by the Panthers eighth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. In 37 games with the franchise, the cornerback has five interceptions and 26 passes defended.
