Casting: Sawayama, Pine, Gadot, Zegler, Sawai

It has been a busy few days on the casting front, here’s the key announcements:

Caine
Rina Sawayama will reprise her “John Wick: Chapter 4” role of Akira in the upcoming Donnie Yen-led spin-off film “Caine” at Lionsgate. Yen directs the film which will shoot later this year, while Mattson Tomlin penned the script.

With Caine freed from his obligations to the High Table, the film continues the story in what’s dubbed a “Hong Kong-style action thriller”. Sawayama’s Akira was introduced as the fearless daughter of Hiroyuki Sanada’s Shimazu Koji in the fourth “John Wick”.

Run the Night
Chris Pine is set to star in and produce the Robert Alonzo-directed action film “Run the Night” for Lionsgate. The story follows a banker, accused of betraying the Dutch mob, gets dumped naked in the heart of Amsterdam with a $10 million bounty on his head. Hunted by the city’s most violent gangs, he must fight his way across the city by dawn to save the lives of his wife and child.

Ruin
Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts will star in Niki Caro’s World War II feature “Ruin” based on a Black List topping script by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo (“Eternals”). Shooting begins early 2026.

Set in the rubble of Germany following World War II, a newly released camp prisoner (Gadot) forms an alliance with a German soldier (Schoenaerts) as they both seek revenge on a Nazi Schutzstaffel unit.

Rapture
Kit Connor, Will Poulter and Manu Ríos will lead the medieval zombie horror movie “Rapture” which will shoot in Hungary later this year. The project marks playwright and director Jordan Tannahill’s feature debut. Set in 1348 England, it revolves around a mysterious illness that turns victims into undead creatures craving flesh.

She Gets It From Me
Rachel Zegler will play the daughter of Marisa Tomei‘s wild-living mother in comedy drama “She Gets It From Me”. Julia von Heinz directs the true story-based work.

Zegler plays Nicky, whose engagement celebration turns into a search for her pill-popping, ex-punk rocker birth mother, Charlotte (Tomei). Together, the two embark on an anarchic mother-and-daughter journey to reconnect.

How to Rob a Bank
Emmy-winner Anna Sawai (“Shogun,” “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”) has scored a high-profile role in David Leitch’s heist thriller “How To Rob A Bank” at Amazon MGM Studios. Nicholas Hoult and Pete Davidson co-star while Mark Bianculli (“Hunters”) penned the script. Plot specifics are under wraps.
