The Washington Capitals lost a crucial part of their team during Wednesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Capitals announced that starting goaltender Logan Thompson was doubtful to return after suffering an upper-body injury.

The 28-year-old did not come out for the second period after allowing three goals on 12 shots to start the game. Backup Charlie Lindgren replaced him in the second period.

Thompson has been stellar in his first season with the Capitals, posting a 31-5-6 record with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

His efforts earned him a six-year, $35.1 million contract extension back on Jan. 27. However, since signing his new deal, Thompson has posted a 9-3-3 record with a 3.05 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
