John Capestro-Dubets stormed to pole position for the second race of the McLaren Trophy America weekend at the Circuit of The Americas.
The GMG Racing driver reeled off a 2:07.404 in the Race 1-winning Pro class No. 4 McLaren Aruta Trophy Evo he shares with Andre Solano to outpace RP Motorsports by Forte Racing’s Am class pole-sitter Kevin Madsen by just 0.020 seconds.
Third quickest overall was GMG team owner/driver James Sofronas, less than one second off the pace in his No. 14 McLaren.
Tommy Pintos was second in Pro, qualifying fourth fastest in the No. 919 Pro class Skip Barber Racing machine with Dark Horse Racing’s Jeff Cook behind to round out the overall top five.
Casey Dennis was sixth overall in his Pro RWE Motorsport machine ahead of stablemate and Pro-Am pole-winner John Dempsey, who set the seventh-best overall time in the 15-minute session.
During the session, Tom Kopczynski had a pair of lap times invalidated, with Sofronas, George Lawrence, and Cook also losing laps for exceeding track limits. Despite the handful of track limits violations, the session ran entirely uninterrupted.
Race 2 of the weekend goes green at 11:05 a.m. CST with live streaming coverage available on both McLaren Automotive’s and SRO’s GT World YouTube Channels.
