Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle resumes skating following surgery

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle is getting closer to returning to the lineup.

Guhle skated Friday for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a lacerated quadriceps muscle.

The 23-year-old from Edmonton sustained the injury during the third period of Montreal’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 28 when he crashed into the boards.

The team said Guhle would be out indefinitely after having surgery.

He has recorded 14 points (four goals and 10 assists) in 44 games this season while averaging 21:14 in ice time.

He missed time during the pre-season after having his appendix removed.

Guhle was drafted in the first round, 16th overall, by Montreal in 2020.

He has 54 points (14 goals and 40 assists) in 158 career games over three seasons with the Canadiens.
