Windsor, Ont., native Kyle Prepolec will replace Joel Alvarez on Saturday in a lightweight bout against Benoit Saint-Denis, Sportsnet’s Aaron Bronsteter reported Monday and the UFC confirmed.
The 35-year-old stepped in to replace Joel Álvarez who disclosed a hand injury on Monday that prevented him from competing in the event. He will join Laval, Que., native Aiemann Zahabi in the main event representing Canada.
Prepolec has a 13-7 career record and is 4-1 since his promotional debut with UFC on May 4, 2019. Saint-Denis has lost two straight and is looking to pick up career win No. 13.
The 155-pound contest is set to kick off Saturday’s pay-per-view main card. There are four more Canadians featured on the event’s preliminary card: Mike Malott, Jasmine Jasudavicius, Marc-Andre Barriault, and Brad Katona.
UFC 315 is headlined by a welterweight title fight featuring Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena, along with a women’s flyweight championship bout between Valentina Shevchenko and Manon Fiorot.
It is the first time that a UFC event in Montreal will feature two championship fights.
Saturday’s preliminary card begins at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet One. The pay-per-view main card is available for purchase through Sportsnet+ and will start at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
