Bryan Cranston Teases "Different Dynamic" on MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE Revival: "I’ve Been Trying to Get This Going for 12 Years"
Bryan Cranston isn’t one to let a good idea die, especially when it comes to Malcolm in the Middle. The beloved sitcom’s revival has been in the works for over a decade, at least according to Cranston, who’s been pushing for its return."I’ve been trying to get this going for 12 years. I was the one poking the bear, going, ‘Let’s do it, let’s do it, let’s do it,’" Cranston told Variety at the red carpet premiere for his new series The Studio. "Finally, Linwood Boomer, our creator of the show, got tired of me poking him. He came up with some really fun, terrific ideas."His persistence is finally paying off. The upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival will be a four-episode limited series on Disney+, and the story will pick up with Malcolm, now a father, bringing his daughter to Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary. While years have passed, Cranston hints that some things never change. "You are reintroduced to this family. We left the airwaves 20 years ago. All the boys are adults with their own children. He went on to say: “It’s a different dynamic in that sense—and yet, do things really change with Hal and Lois? I don’t know that they do!"Cranston is back as Hal, with Jane Kaczmarek returning as Lois. Frankie Muniz, Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield will reprise their roles as Malcolm, Francis, and Reese. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, is sitting this one out, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark stepping into the role.Filming is set to begin soon, but there’s no official release date yet. As a little bit of trivia, I was actually in several episodes of the original Malcom in the Middle series as an extra. Those were fun days!
