Blues’ Bolduc fined for cross-checking Predators’ Blankenburg

Zack Bolduc‘s wallet may feel a little lighter after laying a controversial hit on Sunday.

The St. Louis Blues centre was handed a $2,248.26 fine, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for a cross-check on Nashville Predators defenceman Nick Blankenburg, the NHL’s department of player safety announced Monday.

The incident occurred at 13:32 of the third period of Sunday’s game between the two sides. Bolduc cross-checked Blankenburg while the defenceman was down following a collision at centre-ice.

Bolduc was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for the infraction.

The 22-year-old has been a steady contributor for the Blues this season, tallying 14 goals and 15 assists over 62 games. He has 33 penalty minutes and has a plus-16 rating this year, tied for the second-highest on the Blues.

The Trois-Rivières, Que., native was selected 17th overall by the Blues in the 2021 NHL Draft. He’s currently playing in his first full season in the league.
