A couple of Toronto Blue Jays prospects received some well-deserved recognition.
Pitchers Jake Bloss and Trey Yesavage were named to the All-Spring Breakout teams on Monday. Bloss was named to the first team, while Yesavage made the second team.
Toronto took on the Minnesota Twins on Saturday in the annual four-day event designed to showcase baseball’s future.
Bloss, the Blue Jays’ No. 6 ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, started the game with two dominant innings, striking out four and giving up just one hit.
Yesavage, 21, came in to replace Bloss in the third and made quite the impression in his organizational debut. Toronto’s No. 2-ranked prospect allowed just two hits while striking out three. His fastball was particularly impressive, topping out at 97 m.p.h. and sitting at 95.5 m.p.h.
The Blue Jays drafted Yesavage 20th overall out of East Carolina University last year, and he didn’t pitch in 2024 after he signed with the club.
Yesavage is quite advanced as a pitcher, having played three seasons in the NCAA, where he posted a 2.58 ERA over 195.1 innings with 295 strikeouts against 74 walks. Such experience could set the right-hander on a fast track to the majors, not unlike the path Alek Manoah travelled to Toronto a few years ago.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Bloss was acquired by the Blue Jays in the trade that sent Yusei Kikuchi to the Houston Astros.
With two members of the Blue Jays’ rotation – Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer – eligible for free agency in the fall, and Kevin Gausman up after the 2026 season, the Blue Jays are hoping both Bloss and Yesavage can be a big part of their future.
