BFGoodrich’s New Street Performance Tire Proves They Don’t Just Do Truck Stuff
The g-Force Phenom T/A takes on the likes of the Advan Apex V601 and Azenis FK 510 with a silica-infused compound that's supposed to be great for wet braking. The post BFGoodrich’s New Street Performance Tire Proves They Don’t Just Do Truck Stuff appeared first on The Drive.

When you hear the name BFGoodrich, you’d be forgiven for thinking of off-roading first. The excellent K02 and K03 all-terrain tire is what it’s best known for. While BFGoodrich isn’t brand-new to high-performance summer tires, it isn’t really a big name in that game. It seems that the company is looking to change that with the new g-Force Phenom T/A tire.
Previously, BFGoodrich had high-performance summer tires like the g-Force Rival series, but that tire targeted extreme performance, not unlike Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2. The Phenom is a little different. It’s classified as an “ultra high-performance summer tire” and it’s less hardcore than the Rival but still ready for track use. Think of it along the same lines as the Hankook Ventus V12 EV02, Yokohama Advan Apex V601, and Falken Azenis FK 510. Technically, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is also in that category, but a tire needs to prove its worth before it can be compared to the mighty PS4S.
According to BFGoodrich, the Phenom has all the trademarks of a good summer tire: stiff sidewalls, shallow shoulder blocks, and dual tread zones to handle both water dispersion and dry grip. However, its main party trick seems to be its new silica-infused compound that’s supposed to help with wet braking. BFGoodrich said the Phenom exhibited better wet-braking performance than the aforementioned competitors while using a 2019 Genesis G70 for testing. The Phenom will also serve as the official tire of the Skip Barber Racing School. It seems the tire launched in Australia and parts of Asia around the summer of 2023, but is now reaching North America.
The Phenom will debut with 20 sizes on Friday, ranging from 16- to 20-inch wheels, with 30 more sizes coming in April. If your car doesn’t fall into any of those 50 sizes, even more will roll out over the next year. There isn’t official pricing for the Phenom just yet but if it’s comparable to similar summer rubber from Hankook or Falken, BFGoodrich could be a seriously attractive option. Especially since Michelin happens to own BFGoodrich, and I’m hoping some of the parent company’s Pilot Sport know-how has trickled down to the Phenom.
