Beyoncé Kicks Off ‘Cowboy Carter’ Tour With 13 Live Debuts

Beyoncé began her North American stadium tour in support of the album Cowboy Carter last night (April 28) at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, performing 17 songs from the Grammy-nominated project across a nearly three-hour show.

A whopping 13 of those Cowboy Carter songs were live debuts, including opener “American Requiem,” “Alligator Tears,” “Flamenco,” “Desert Eagle,” “Tyrant” and “Protector,” the latter of which marked the first on-stage appearance by Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s seven-year-old daughter Rumi.

More from Spin:

Throughout, Beyoncé flew across the audience on both a horseshoe and a car, sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” a capella and wore an LED dress that changed colors during “Daughter.” Said the artist near the end of the show, “I have the best fans in the world. I love you so much. We worked so hard to make this as perfect as we could for y’all. I hope y’all had fun.”

The set list was also heavy on Beyoncé’s last album, Renaissance, while “Why Don’t You Love Me” reappeared for the first time since 2014 and “Daddy Lessons” emerged for the first time since 2016. Beyoncé also covered Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” the Beatles’ “Blackbird” and “Before I Let Go” by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.

The Cowboy Carter tour runs through July 26 in Las Vegas. It includes a record-breaking six shows in June at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
