‘Be a great Packer’ – Pat McAfee discusses shocking DK Metcalf trade request after Tyler Lockett exit
The wide receiver room in Seattle is going to look a whole lot different next season. That’s because an hour after the Seahawks released Tyler Lockett, star wide receiver DK Metcalf requested a trade out of town. Metcalf and Lockett were teammates together for six seasons in SeattleGetty The timing was just an unfortunate coincidence for Seahawks fans, as the writing was on the wall for the ten-year veteran and 12th-man staple, in Lockett. And while there were rumblings of a Metcalf trade request the last few weeks, he officially requested one on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the Lockett news broke. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the two sides had been communicating recently, but ultimately this was the resolution. “Seahawks WR DK Metcalf has requested a trade, per source,” Schefter reported on X. “The request came today after a series of conversations over the past two weeks. Metcalf prefers a contender.” Lockett and Metcalf were teammates in Seattle for the last six seasons, forming one of the league’s best WR-duos. It will now be on Jaxon Smith-Njigba to carry the torch in the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile, all eyes shift to Metcalf and the numerous suitors that are sure to go after him. There are countless of teams that come to mind who could be in the market for Metcalf’s services. The New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, all come to mind. Metcalf is one of the premier wide receivers in the league and is in the midst of his primeGetty Any team that lacks a true number one WR should be calling Seattle trying to complete a trade for the star wide receiver The Metcalf news broke during the middle of The Pat McAfee Show, which presented the opportunity for McAfee and his crew to have a live roundtable, on the spot discussion about potential future homes for the star wide receiver. Noted Steelers fan, Anthony DiGuilio, suggested he could be heading to the Steel City. “The Steelers have been trying so hard to trade for a wide receiver the last 12 months,” DiGuilio said. “It has not happened many times. Cooper Kupp, [Brandon] Aiyuk, just go through all of them. “Metcalf has been on the Steelers fan’s wish list for a little bit and now that he is requesting a trade, I’m not saying it’s going to happen, I’m not saying he’s gonna get traded, but my hopes are ready to get crushed again.” “He’d be a great Patriot, great Packer, that’s a big name” McAfee chimed in. Noted cheesehead on the set, Ty Schmit, then added to what he had heard in regards to Metcalf and the Packers. “There’s a lot of smoke that the Packers have already engaged a little bit with the Seahawks trying to get DK Metcalf,” Schmit said. “The rumor was that they’ve already offered a first-round pick for him and potentially one of their other young receivers. “I don’t know if that’s actually true, but I would assume that the Packers will be very aggressive in trying to get a guy like DK Metcalf if he’s available.” If Metfcalf is traded, Schefter has reported that with only one year remaining on his current deal, the wide receiver would also like a new contract. Where that ends up, remains to be seen.
